Surveyors 2 Education were employed to act as a direct consultant for the school and assist County Upper school with their application for funding through the government condition improvement funding scheme known as CIF. The school had numerous areas of the roof that were reporting serious water ingress causing hazardous conditions for the children, staff and all occupations below.
As the school were not financially fortunate enough to rectify these dangerous conditions, they had to request government funding and assistance. With the expert advice and support of Surveyors 2 Education the school were able to secure funding for the scheme and after a competitive tender process Allard Construction Ltd were appointed as the contractor to undertake the works.
Allard Construction replaced approximately 40% of the roof coverings on the school with a brand new 25 year warranted system. The installed system was cold applied which alleviated any hot works or fire risks. Coinciding with the waterproofing works, we upgraded the building and in turn improved the energy efficiency by introducing a new flat board insulation system to our warm roof covering which complies to the current building part “L” building regulations.
The nature of these works meant it was not possible to complete the project within the 6-week school summer holiday period, thus works had to be carried out in a live operating school. As a result, we had to take particular caution with safeguarding the site from unauthorised access or inquisitive children.
We decided to use Sika Liquid Plastic’s Decothane Ultra for the waterproofing works which is virtually odourless meaning that no high solvent smells were being distributed through classes and affecting the normal day to day running of the school.
