For this project, Allard Construction worked on behalf of Make Consulting Ltd, a consulting practice who work directly with the secondary school in Hertfordshire. Within the school grounds, there were two netball and tennis courts. Both courts had an old tarmac surface with various defects which had resulted in accidents and minor injuries for young children. As a result, the school needed to resurface both courts.
The school approached the consulting practice and enquired for a bid to be prepared to resurface these sport courts from the government funded condition improvement funding scheme also known as CIF. Fortunately, the school obtained funding for these works and we were also fortunate enough to secure the works after a very competitive tendering process.
Allard Construction Ltd resurfaced two original tennis and netball courts with a tarmac surface. This process included the painting of new lines and the full replacement of the existing wire fencing with a new sports rebound steel fencing.
We faced challenges when removing the existing fence as it was bedded in concrete that was a metre deep. Additionally, one of the courts had become overrun with vegetation resulting in Allard Construction having to remove and recycle all vegetation, including smaller standing trees.
It was essential to the client that the programme was delivered within the 6-week school summer holiday period. Allard Construction managed the programme efficiently at all stages from procurement to completion to ensure the works had been successfully completed prior to the pupils returning to school.
Allard Construction Ltd hired mechanical drills with specialist Auger bits to carry out all necessary ground works and concrete removals.
